Healthy is Hard

Hey everyone! Happy Monday!! It’s been a great day. I had a whooping 4…that’s right, FOUR people show up to my Jazzercise class this morning. That never happens on Mondays!! I was pleasantly surprised, and it put me in a great mood to start my week.

So lately I’ve been struggling with eating healthy. I eat fruits and veggies everyday. But I also keep munching on not-so-healthy tortilla chips, popcorn, yada yada. The list could go on and on. And I am struggling to get back on track. I also feel like every weekend sends Nick and I into an unhealthy pit that I can’t dig us out of. Ugh. So tonight I tried to compromise. I told myself I would eat a giant salad and then I would see if I was still hungry before I headed back to the fridge immediately.

I was truthfully not excited about this pile of veggies, but I ended up loving it. It was amazing actually. So I’m once again going to make it my mantra for the week: When you eat well, you feel well. So fill your tummy with the best! Let’s hope I can use this as motivation to get me through this week. Next week will be a little different…. I can’t believe I’ll already be carbo-loading! Where does the time go?!

But since my marathon is less than 2 weeks away, now is the perfect time to refine my eating and be as healthy as possible. I don’t need to add an extra pound or two before April 6!

By the way, speaking of struggling to eat well, have you guys tried these? My lovely student Dede brought them to my attention last week, so I obviously had to run out and buy 2 bags this weekend! And they are delicious. 🙂 I took my 2nd bag to work today to share. My coworkers loved them as well! And they are only available at Walmart during Easter! So go getcha some. Also, Dede says they freeze well so buy extra!!

And for a little fun (and a nice little jab at dairy products that make me sick), I found this today.

Isn’t he cute??! His little meme was just too perfect for this blog so I had to share.

Well I’m off to put my little Mac to bed. Have a good evening. Nighty night!>

My Coworkers Must Hate Me

Hey there! I hope your Wednesday has been a good one.

Mine started out with my first real run since the race. I was feeling a lot better yesterday and thought I would be fine to get up and run today. It felt so weird as I was running out of my subdivision this morning – it was like I had stepped back in time and was suddenly ‘pre-race’ again. It was weird! I also felt oddly alone and freaked because the last time I ran longer than 30 minutes was at the race with 400 other people. So running this morning in the dark alone wasn’t so cozy. It probably didn’t help that it was 7 degrees either. 🙂  But I got back into my groove (kinda) after a mile or so, and it felt good. My pace was almost a solid 30 seconds slower than normal, but I was ok with it. My muscles were frozen and could only push so hard!

After my run I was feeling motivated and did my best to pack healthy snacks for work.

IMG_3186I had some Greek yogurt with this yummy Atkins protein bar for breakfast. I felt good – not too full and not hungry. And then one of my coworkers walked in….with a box of donuts. Why must they torment me with these things?! Can’t they see I’m trying to be good and feed my body non-fried items?? I held off until right before lunch time. I snuck about 3 bites of one on my way out the door to lunch because I was starving. And then I had a red velvet cake donut for my dessert right after lunch…ugh. Needless to say, my tummy isn’t feeling so hot. I’m thankful I ran for an hour this morning! Those donuts really helped me make up the calorie deficit. HA.

My Coworkers Must Hate Me

So today, late afternoon, I got bored and found this meme about running.

runner-memeI’m sure you’ve seen them around on Facebook, Google, etc. I think they are hilarious, especially when they pertain to you and something you are personally involved in. Well this one took the cake today, and I immediately sent it to all my coworkers with a bajillion smiley faces over Skype. Yup, I’ve become that person. And now there is a new meme to describe me. I’m not sure I like it.

marathon2My coworkers literally must hate me. Everytime I open my mouth lately it’s about running. And if it’s not about running, it will be about Jazzercise, Nick, or Mac. And usually it’s just my ramblings that they have heard a million times. But 9 out of 10 times, it’s about running. Oops. I’ve become the annoying, chatty cubicle mate. I’m almost positive they probably want to sew my mouth shut at this point. 🙂

Oh well. The first step in fixing a problem is realizing there is a problem. So I’ll kick down the running talk at work. Unless of course they bring it up first.

Tonight I’m just enjoying a relaxing night at home with Nick and Mac. I hope you all have a lovely evening!

Jazzercise Marathon

I have an inside joke with several of my (daytime) coworkers about my ‘Jazzercise Marathon’ days. Usually a couple times a month, I volunteer to sub other instructor’s classes when they have to miss for whatever reason. Typically, this means I end up teaching a 5:40 PM class before my normal 6:45 time slot. Two straight hours of teaching Jazzercise after an already 8-hour long work day = Jazzercise marathon.

Today was one of my Jazzercise marathon days; I’m completely pooped! I love teaching, and I enjoy the awesome workout and energy that comes from the two hour session. But after today, I need a good night’s rest for sure! I try to stay super hydrated during these back-to-back classes and eat a healthy snack beforehand. But I always seem to feel super torn down and a little sick afterwards. Tonight is no exception! I guess it will never get easier, but that’s okay.  If it was easy, it wouldn’t be an effective workout. 🙂

I always have the thought in the back of my mind that I would enjoy being able to do something in the fitness industry full time at some point in my life. But if so, it would have to be something different than all day Jazzercise sessions! I think I would shrivel up like a prune and die if I had to teach more than 3 everyday. Isn’t it sometimes fun though to push your body and see how much you can really endure when needed? The most classes I’ve ever taught in a day is 3 + a regular 8 hour workday in my office. I remember being so stressed and tired, but I survived!

Lunch

Lunch today needed to be light to follow suit with breakfast and make up for my indulging night last night. I made a quick salad with romaine, half a cucumber and some light Italian dressing!

photo(67)Filling but obviously not fattening. Win win! Plus the cucumbers were garden fresh – given to me by one of my wonderful students who has an amazing green thumb. They are so yummy and fresh compared to the store bought veggies!

As I finished up my salad, I heated up a low-carb Lean Cuisine with turkey and green beans.

photo(66)Healthiest thing ever? Probably not. But it was tasty and good portion control for a starving tummy.

Dinner

I had a quick snack of peanut butter and celery before rushing off to the Jazzercise marathon. So I wasn’t too starved by the time I arrived home. So I had some honey Greek yogurt before fixing some steamed veggies!

photo(63)I inhaled these beautiful veggies in a flash and finished off dinner with a hard-boiled egg thanks to Nick. I guess he was cravin’ eggs tonight when he got home from work! Yay for a quick and easy protein!

Have a great night everyone. Tomorrow is Friday!
