Summer Ramblings

Hey peeps!! It’s me, Christine. I’m alive. I’ve returned from the land of Busy & Lazy. I hope you are all having a great summer! Mine is going well!

So in a nut shell, let me catch you up on what I’ve been up to…

1. It’s hot, so running sucks. But I’ve still been logging the miles. I’ve been running a bit slower with the heat/humidity, and I’m okay with it. I still made it to 152 miles for July, though! Woot!

2. I ran a 10K in July! And I got 4th in my age division! Yay! It was the Girls Just Wanna Run 10K here in Springfield, and I ran it just for fun.

3. I’ve taught a gazillion Jazzercise classes! And it’s been great! I’m thankful to workout in the air conditioning on the crazy hot summer days. ๐Ÿ™‚ The team-taught Fourth of July class was the best!

4. We’ve been to STL a few times! Once for a family reunion and once for a wedding. Trips to Nick’s parents house make me happy – and not just because of the pool. HA!

0000084505-IMG_4429 0000084505-IMG_4609 0000084505-IMG_4614There’s my family! Can you spot me? We be cute. ๐Ÿ™‚

5. I decided to do the Whole30 to help with my digestive/tummy issues! I finished my 30 days on July 29th, and I’m feeling 100% better. It’s been a struggle, but somehow I can’t bring myself to go back to eating like I did before! If you aren’t familiar with the Whole30, go check out their website. It’s an amazing program, and I just purchased their book It Starts With Food. I can’t wait to read it!

6. My sorority sister, Lindsay, is getting married! So we had a bridal shower for her last Saturday! And we are going to Vegas for the Bachelorette party on the 15th. Any tips/advice?! This will be my first Vegas experience.

7. I’ve been hanging with Nick and Mac a lot because I love those guys. When I’m not busy running/working/Jazzercising, you can find me at home with these two!

Anyways, that’s all I have for now. ๐Ÿ™‚ย  My summer in a nutshell. I will definitely be back to share tales of my Whole30.

Have any of you ever completed the Whole30? If so, I would love to hear about it and your life after the Whole30! For me, I’m still in the honeymoon phase. I don’t hate eating clean yet, and I feel like I can be flexible with it since I’m past the 30 days. Like at that bridal shower last weekend? I totally didn’t even feel guilty eating that cake. And it was fantastic.

Hope you are having a great Wednesday!

Chili Weekend

Hey everyone! I’m back! I just woke up from my Sunday afternoon catnap and realized I hadn’t written since Wednesday. Oops! But all is well. Busy lives just never seem to get less busy. ๐Ÿ™‚

The end of my week was filled with work and Jazzercise. I was just anxious for the weekend to arrive! Nick and I had plans to attend the Sertoma Chili Cookoff at the Expo center in downtown Springfield on Saturday afternoon! I couldn’t wait for lots of chili in my tummy!

I woke up bright and early on Saturday morning to get in my last long run before the marathon next weekend. 10 miles flew by, and I was headed off to sub a 9:30 Jazzercise class before I knew it. I taught to a full room of 13 ladies with tons of energy, and it felt great! Maybe the 50 degree temps and sunshine had something to do with it?

Anyways, between the run and class I had carved a nice big calorie deficit just waiting to be filled with chili. After a shower, Nick and I headed downtown to let the chili tasting begin!

Mmmm, chili. ๐Ÿ™‚ We tasted about 10 different kinds before Nick threw in the towel. I had room for a few more bites! It was a crazy environment though. And we didn’t hang out too much longer.

People everywhere!! We could barely make it from one side of the expo center to the other because of the Huge crowd. It was intense. But we still had a great time seeing friends and sampling chili from local restaurants and businesses. My favorite was from Dublin’s Pass – a local Irish pub. They didn’t win, but I definitely went back for several extra samples from their booth!

Overall, it was a good time! The only down side? Dealing with chili overload today. Our stomachs were not happy with us this morning!

After the cookoff, we went by Ultramax (a local running store) to grab some last minute supplies for next weekend. By the time we were done shopping, we were ready for some real food! It was 4 pm and I hadn’t had a real meal yet for the day. So we stopped by a fresh and healthy Asian restaurant called Koriya. I got the crispy shrimp bowl in the picture and it was delish!

It was full of rice, veggies, and tempura shrimp. I loved it! This restaurant is on the opposite side of town from us, so I’m not sure how often we’ll go back. But I think it’s worth the trip. They have an awesome menu with lots of healthy options!

Tonight I’m just trying to get a rough list together of everything I want to pack for next weekend. The Little Rock marathon is one week from today! By this time in the evening, we should be arriving home. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m so excited!!!!

Have a great evening everyone. Enjoy the last few hours of your weekend, and I’ll talk to you later!

Chelsea’s Jazzercise Baby Shower

Hey there! Hope your Monday is going swell. Mine’s been flyin’ by, and I’m ready for a night of relaxation!

So yesterday I promised a recap of what else I did with my Valentine’s weekend. And it just so happens that I attended a fabulous baby shower for a fellow Jazzercise instructor!

Chelsea’s Shower Class

IMG_3317So, when you are a Jazzercise instructor, you don’t get the typcial ‘shower’ for special occasions like weddings or babies. You get the Jazzer treatment and of course, this centers around a fun, themed Jazzercise class!

IMG_3303Here’s Chelsea. Ain’t she cute with that little preggo belly? We celebrated her gender reveal with a Jazzercise Plus, 90 minute, class on Saturday morning. And it’s a BOY! Woot!! So Baby Boy Taylor is on the way this summer. We danced to lots of baby-themed songs to celebrate the expecting momma.

IMG_3305 IMG_3293I sure hope that I can still rock the stage when I have kids one day. Most instructors dance all the way through their pregnancies, so I won’t throw in the towel until my doctor says I have to! Chelsea rocked through the class with ease with the help of a few other instructors.

IMG_3291 IMG_3297I came as a student to class because I wasn’t sure how my morning run would leave me feeling. Sometimes I can feel great after a run, and sometimes I feel like I need to vomit for about an hour. Luckily my Saturday morning run left me feeling good! I was sore, but good. ๐Ÿ™‚

IMG_3322So after this run, I ate a quick Greek yogurt and bagel in the car on the way over to the center. I was afraid my stomach would be upset, but everything settled fine, and I made it through the class without too much pain!

I was mostly looking forward to the treats though. ๐Ÿ™‚ย  What baby shower would be complete without cupcakes and goodies?!

IMG_3308 IMG_3310Yum! All this sugar was definitely what my body was craving after that 90-minute class. I had a cupcake right away and a pretzel. Oh and a mustache shaped rice krispy treat!

IMG_3319Ha! All in celebration of the little boy that is on the way. It was a great class, and I’m so glad that I made it in time to participate as a student. It’s always refreshing to be in Jazzercise classes as a student. Makes me really appreciate the other instructors and how hard they all work!

IMG_3316And congrats to Miss Chelsea and her hubby on their baby boy. She’s 20 weeks along, so we have 20 more to wait to see this little bundle! (And P.S. Dede we missed you terribly!)

Well have a great night everyone. I’m off to enjoy an evening at home with my boys. I’ll see you tomorrow!
