Out with the Old

Happy hump day! These week is absolutely crawling on by, but the weather is beautiful so I can’t be too crabby about it. 🙂

This week I’ve been getting back in my normal flow of life post-marathon. Last week, I could not get with it. My post race stupor has worn off, and I’m feeling like my normal self again! I’m only 1 1/2 weeks out from the Little Rock race, so I’m rather impressed with myself! I’ve gone running several times since then (and I don’t hate it!), my soreness has disappeared, and I no longer want to cry when I talk about the race!

I actually really struggled with my emotions for about the first 3 days post-marathon. I was upset about the cruddy weather, the ‘cancellation’ incident, and the fact that these factors didn’t allow me to do my absolute best. I dreaded the ‘how did your race go?!’ questions from my friends. It was okay and great and fun! except…..for all the drama. Haha but it’s all okay now. And I know in a year from now I won’t remember how horrible the weather was or how much I panicked when I was told the race was cancelled at mile 23. I’ll only remember the feeling of elation when I crossed that finish line and got my giant medal!

So since I’m back in my groove, I decided to finally let my old training schedule go and put up my new spring schedule I made earlier this week.

Goodbye old friend. It feels like the end of an era since I’ve been using this plan since October. But I threw it away, and I must say that it does feel good to have a nice, clean, and shorter schedule up on my fridge currently!

And while we are here, let’s look at baby Thomas one more time. I went to visit this little guy over the weekend, and I can’t get enough! He’s so cute. And that cozy blue sleeper? Auntie Christine bought that for him. 🙂 fits like a charm! His momma is doing a great job at sending me pics since they live about an hour away from Springfield. Fingers crossed that they will come visit soon!

As for my next race, I’m getting very excited for the Shamrox 15K this weekend!!

It’s going to be a super fun event as long as the weather will cooperate! We could potentially get rain, but after Little Rock, a little rain at a 15K race won’t slow me down in the least. 🙂 Nick is being a doll and picking up my packet for me on Friday night since the location is close to his office. Then we will head downtown on Saturday morning at 8 am dressed in our St. Patty’s day finest. I invested in a good pair of shamrock knee high socks for the event. But more on those later…. Aka I haven’t tried them on and taken photos yet! Hope they fit!

Nick isn’t running (he has kinda sworn off the sport since our Thanksgiving morning 5K) but I’m hoping he’ll come be my wingman and cheerleader. Going to races alone is so depressing! I don’t know what I would’ve done without him at my last races. He definitely takes care of me!!

He took this selfie in Little Rock. I bet he is now regretting that decision. But I think he’s cute!

I hope you all have a great evening! This girl is gonna be relaxing and catching up on some laundry. Fun times!

Spring Running Plan

Happy Sunday! My posts have been few and far between this week, and I apologize. My brain cannot seem to catch up since the marathon a week ago. I can’t believe it’s only been a week since the Little Rock marathon. In a way, it almost seems not real – like it never really happened. But them I come to my senses when I bend or squat and my quads start screaming at me again. When will my body be back to 100% again??…

Anywho, I have MAJOR spas-brain and I’m trying to get my life and head back in order. I thought I was almost there but then I missed a Jazzercise instructor meeting this afternoon. I was visiting my girlfriend Levie at the hospital and her new baby! ..and completely lost track of time. Epic fail? Yep. My bad. But please look at this little guy, and tell me if that sweet face doesn’t make my absence worthwhile. 🙂

Spring Race Schedule

Anyways, in an effort to get my life back in order, I organized my short Spring running plan to keep me on track for my upcoming races.

trainingplan- spring14 Sheet1Feel free to download the PDF:trainingplan- spring14 Sheet1  or the Excel File: trainingplan- spring14

My spring race schedule includes:

  • Shamrox 15K, March 15 (local)
  • Go! STL Marathon, April 6 (St. Louis)
  • Go Girl Half Marathon, April 19 (local)
  • Divas Half Marathon, May 4 (Branson)

And that will be keep me busy up through the beginning of May! I haven’t signed up for any other races (except for the Rock ‘n Roll Marathon in STL on Oct. 19) because I know I won’t enjoy racing during the summer. Me + hot temps = not pretty. So I figured I would play it safe and not schedule any more races until Fall. I may decide to run some local events closer to the event dates depending on how our weather is this Summer. Summertime in Missouri can be brutal, so if personally race during the Summer in the Midwest, I commend you! I don’t think I would handle it well!

Other than forgetting a Jazzercise meeting and seeing the baby, my weekend has been pretty productive. I spent a majority of the day yesterday shopping with my mom and sister-in-law. I had a great time and my momma definitely spoiled me. Shopping trips with my family are the best! But exhausting, especially with the time change. I’m hoping to get lots of good rest tonight to help me deal with the longer days and get on track for the work week.

I hope you are coping with the time change well. ‘Springing forward’ is never fun when we lose our hour of sleep! Have a great evening, and I’ll see you later this week!

Little Rock Marathon Photos

Happy Thursday everyone! I must say this week has absolutely flown by since we got iced into Little Rock a day longer than planned. I feel like each day is done before I can get 50% through everything on my to-do list! This weekend will give me time to catch up both physically and mentally. My mind needs a little extra sleep to get back into normal working order I do believe!

I was happy to find the marathon race photos had been posted this morning! And I look fab in all of them. And by fab I mean I look like a sick and tired drowned rat (in the words of my mother!). But I know you would love to see them anyways.

My favorites are the one where Mac snuck into the photo, and the ones where I’m being super photogenic. I’m not sure how that happened after 26 miles, but it was most definitely a miracle after that crazy race.

This week I have been taking it easy as much as possible. By Wednesday morning, most of my soreness had subsided and I ran for the first time this morning. I did only 3 miles, and I could tell my hamstrings are going to be sore for a while. Wowza. Ouch. It’s amazing the things your body will do after a marathon. Monday and Tuesday I had a random rash show up on my chest and shoulders. Is my body rebelling against me?! Probably.

My race schedule for the next month or so is pretty busy. I have a race lined up almost every other weekend between now and the beginning of May. So I decided I needed to update my training schedule to match these races so I don’t get confused and run too little or too much. I’ll have that to share hopefully soon! I’m doing a 15K, full marathon, and 2 half marathons. It’s going to be a busy spring! More on these later… 🙂

Well I’m off to teach Jazzercise. Let’s hope my quads allow me to move a little bit better than they did on Tuesday night! See you later!
