Little Rock Marathon Training Plan

Hey there! How’s your Tuesday going? So far, so good around here. Today started out with one of those ‘ah-ha’ moments for me. You know, those moments when something really sets in deep in your brain.

I don’t always run on Tuesday mornings, but the weather has been so nice this week that I wanted to get out and enjoy the snow-free roads and sidewalks. So I set my alarm for 5 a.m. to get in a little run before the work day began. When my alarm went off, I turned it off and rolled over. I did not want to get up. At all. Like really really really did not want to get up. I struggled for about 15 minutes before I finally just got my lazy butt out of bed and out the door.

It took me about 5 seconds to get into my normal groove, and I completed 4.2 miles at less than an 8:30/mile pace. It felt so good to get in the zone and focus on some speed work. I got home and hopped in the shower, and that’s when it hit me: I really do love running. I enjoy it so much because of how it can make me feel. I was dancing and happy in the shower at 6 a.m. and without that run, I would have been grumpy and sluggish through my whole morning routine. SO, moral of this story, anytime I feel like hitting snooze and skipping my morning workout, I need to remember how much happier and healthier I feel if I start my day with a little sweat. 🙂

But onto other things…. like my first Marathon!!!

LRmaraThe Little Rock Marathon will be in Little Rock, AR on March 2! I’m so scared/excited about taking on this major commitment! I wouldn’t have even thought about taking on the full marathon until I started looking into some training plans. Since I have been training for my first half since October, I was right on schedule for a beginner’s marathon training schedule!

My girlfriend Heather was already registered for the Little Rock Half Marathon, so when I found out the full and the half marathons were at the same time, I decided to be brave and register for the full course. Am I a little crazy? Well my family sure thinks I am. But I’m pretty much determined to run the whole thing and get my HUGEEEE medal. The Little Rock Marathon is known for their big medals, and I cannot wait to get mine! They posted on the Little Rock Marathon Facebook page that this year’s medal would be around 2.5 lbs!

SO this major commitment meant changing up my Frostbite Half Marathon’s training schedule to be longer and work in some longer runs.

So this plan is just a continuation of my half marathon training. I will be incorporating two 20-milers, and those will be my furthest distance before race day before I begin the taper the last 2 weeks before race day. I can’t believe I’m already on week 13 of my this 19 week schedule! haha I guess I had a head start.

My half marathon is coming up in less than 2 weeks. My Runkeeper app was kind enough to bring this to my attention this morning!

IMG_3084I took this screen shot this morning, so I am nearing right at 10 days until race time! I know I can do it, but I’m already dreading those crazy hills that I encountered during the Frostbite 10-miler. But, on a positive note, I’m just a few days from a small carb loading extravaganza!  Next Thursday and Friday my diet will consist of about 85% carbs, and I cannot wait. I will be loving some bananas, white bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, Greek yogurt, pretzels, and crackers! Low fat and high carb will be my philosophy for a day or two.

On one more side note, Lululemon released some new compression socks this morning, and I obviously bought them within 5 minutes of finding them.

IMG_3085I had a gift card to Lululemon burning a hole in my pocket from Christmas, so I gladly used a portion of it for these. I should have them soon and can hopefully wear them for my half in 2 weeks!

Well I’m off to my Jazzercise double-header. Have a great evening, and I’ll see you tomorrow!

Run Around Sunday

Happy Monday! It was a beautiful weekend, and I’m happy to say that the snow is finally all gone! I was not the least bit sad to see it go. Snow days are only fun if you are a kid and can stay home and hibernate. 🙂

It was in the mid-60’s yesterday, so I did lots of running around (literally!). I started my day with a 4-mile easy run before I headed off to teach Jazzercise. Immediately after class, I headed to Target to get a baby shower gift for my girlfriend, Levie, who’s having her shower next Saturday morning. When I arrived, the store was dead! And it was fantastic! So I spent way too much time and money in there. But I did walk away with a cute gift for the baby-to-come. Success!

I headed back home to shower and have some lunch when Nick decided that we needed to drop his car off at Pep Boys to be worked on. Funny noises + a burning smell = a Sunday trip to the mechanic. Woot. But the trip ended with some awesome sandwiches at Which Wich.

IMG_3074I had the toasted chicken pesto with spinach, and I was in heaven! It was amazing and was definitely worth the multiple trips across town to take Nick back and forth. 🙂 Mac was pretty enthused with all the car rides too.

IMG_3076IMG_3078HA! That little guy could be content hanging his head out the car window for hours and hours.

Breakfast

So breakfast this morning was fun – I got to try Chobani’s new 100 Cal yogurt!

IMG_3082This excites me because the high calorie count in the regular Chobani is what steers me away from this brand usually. BUT, I always feel the need to buy it because it is made with more natural ingredients than my typical stuff. Needless to say, my fridge is stocked with this stuff after my grocery trip yesterday!

IMG_3083I love the inside of the lid “Finally a 100 calories yogurt worth counting.” I loved this black cherry flavor, so tomorrow I’ll be brave and try the pineapple flavor.

IMG_3081I had my yogurt with some oatmeal and a banana + lots of coffee. And I’m happy to say that this mix kept me full all morning!

Jazzercise Run

This morning started with a 3-mile run with Mac. I usually teach Jazzercise on Monday mornings, but I switched today with the 6:45 pm teacher. And I’m an idiot and didn’t write this down in my phone calendar. So I pulled into Jazzercise this morning at 5:30 a.m. and immediately remembered the switch. Oops! I didn’t want the other instructor to know I’m an idiot (or to feel bad for that matter!), so I just headed back home and leashed up Mac for a run instead.

We made it 3.4 miles with a 9:29 pace, which is pretty good for a tiny dog that makes frequent potty stops! I was thankful to get in a good sweat regardless of my poor scheduling skills. 🙂

This evening will now be spent teaching a class followed by an early bed time. I’ve almost got my marathon training plan put together, so hopefully I’ll be able to share that soon! The Little Rock Marathon is only 7 weeks away!

Have a great day, everyone!

Diva Dash 5K

Hey there! How has you Saturday been? Mine has been filled with running and pink tutus!

This morning started off with a run on my own of 12.6 miles before I headed off to the Diva Dash to finish up my mileage for the day!

My long run went super quick this morning since I was anticipating the Diva Dash with my girlfriends! All 3 of us , Heather, myself, and Rikki, assembled in downtown Springfield this morning for the race start at 9 am. Luckily, the rain yesterday cleaned away most of the salt and snow on the roads. We took off running with all the other divas and had a smooth and fun race! It was a little cold waiting to take off though. 🙂

We warmed up pretty quick. And by pretty quick, I mean I was maybe warm by 1.75 miles in. 30 degrees felt colder than normal today!

Rikki was rockin’ it. I guess that’s what teaching for 10 years does for your endurance. 🙂

We took it nice and easy and finished in around 30 minutes. I was thankful for an easy pace after my morning miles. I fought black ice most of my solo run, so my legs and hips were spent.

We got giant medals as we crossed the finish line where they had lots of snacks and goodies too.

Yay for adding to my medal collection! And by collection, I mean the 1 other medal I had from the Glow Run 5K. Mac was pretty enthused with my new medal too.

This afternoon consisted of taking my Christmas decorations down and napping. Yes, I’m late with the decorations coming down. But I’ve been busy. Ha!

Anyways, have a great night everyone! See you all later!
